The Primary English program focuses on building a strong foundation in all areas of literacy, taught step by step, and caters to individual learning paces.

English (1 hour per week):

Our program provides comprehensive coverage of the Australian Curriculum for English, focusing on building a deep understanding of each key literacy area:

Reading:

• • Phonics and phonological awareness: Developing skills in recognising and manipulating sounds in spoken language, including blending, segmenting, and manipulating phonemes.

  • Fluency: Developing reading speed, accuracy, and expression.

  • Comprehension: Understanding and interpreting texts, including literal, inferential, and evaluative comprehension.

  • Vocabulary: Expanding vocabulary through explicit instruction and exposure to diverse texts.

Writing:

• • Text structure and organisation: Learning to organise ideas and structure different text types (narratives, informative texts, persuasive texts and more).

  • Composition: Developing skills in planning, drafting, revising, and editing written work.

Language Conventions:

• Grammar: Developing a strong understanding of grammatical concepts such as sentence structure, parts of speech, and verb tenses.

• Punctuation: Learning and applying correct punctuation conventions, including commas, apostrophes, quotation marks and more.

• Spelling: Reinforcing accurate spelling through various strategies and activities.

• Vocabulary: Building a rich vocabulary to enhance both written and oral communication.

Flexible Learning Levels: Unlike traditional schooling, our program allows children to progress at their own pace. If a child demonstrates advanced understanding, they can move to a higher level. Conversely, if a child requires additional support, they can work at a foundational level group until they have mastered the necessary skills. This personalised approach ensures every child receives the support they need to succeed.
