STEM, a term first introduced by the U.S. National Science Foundation in 2001, is an abbreviation (or short form) for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. It is usually used when addressing education or career pathways.
STEM education in Singapore integrates the four fields into one cohesive learning model, focusing on real-world examples.
To further promote STEM education pathways, the Ministry of Education, Singapore has been partnering with local organisations to better improve the curriculum.
One example is STEM Inc, a unit specially dedicated to igniting students' passion for these areas, which was established in January 2014 by Science Centre Singapore.
STEM careers include any job in one or more of these four fields.
With a strong foundation in these subjects, a STEM career, on a broad level, allows you to solve problems, develop new ideas and conduct research.
These professionals can work in a variety of settings, including in an office, laboratory, research facility, classroom or out in the field.
