While this proposal was not ultimately successful, I am leaving the proposal up on this site for transparency and as an example of the kind of project I would like to find funding for in the 2022/2023 school year.
Interactive tabletop arcade cabinets
There are kits for the cabinetry on Amazon and we already have joysticks, buttons, and button controllers in my classroom from a previous project where we constructed a prototype arcade cabinet. Tabletop arcades would allow us to bring the work of the students in the game design classes where students are using computer science, math, and technology together to make interactive video games in a variety of genres out into the school environment with portable arcade machines. We will showcase the work of the students in the library and at events like 8th grade open house and back to school open houses as well as in classroom testing stations for games.
2. Interactive displays and kiosks in hallways
We would mount interactive displays outside of the S.T.E.A.M Factory and at the entrance to the Tech Building to showcase our on-demand fabrication shop working (including last year’s AFCEA printers!), school store offerings, student example projects from game dev classes, informational text/images, and an interactive map. Students would create the UI for the map and the functionality for the program using our game development engine.
