Dr Hye - Eun Chu
Senior Lecturer, School of Education, MQ
Hye-Eun Chu is a senior lecturer at the School of Education, Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Before joining Macquarie University, she was an assistant professor in science education at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; post-doctoral research fellow at Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia; and lecturer and researcher at Dankook University, Young-In, Korea. Her research interests include the investigation of students’ conceptual development in science learning with a focus on the inclusion of arts-integrated STEM (STEAM), students’ explanatory models, the influence of learner belief on science and science learning, and on-going assessment in the context of inquiry-based teaching.
Sonya N. Martin
Professor, Science Education, SNU
Sonya N Martin is a Professor in the Department of Earth Science Education at Seoul National University in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Sonya holds a bachelor's degree in Biology from Bryn Mawr College, and master’s degrees in Elementary Education and in Chemistry Education from the University of Pennsylvania in the United States. She also holds a doctoral degree in Science Education from Curtin University in Australia. Her research focuses on identifying science teacher practices that promote learning for diverse students and on promoting professionalization of science teachers through classroom-based participatory research.
Dr Michael Cavanagh
Associate Professor SFHEA, Director of Education
Dr Michael Cavanagh is an Associate Professor in the School of Education at Macquarie University. He taught mathematics in secondary schools for 20 years before becoming the secondary mathematics curriculum lecturer at Macquarie in 2004. He is the recipient of national and university teaching awards and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His research examines reflective practice, teacher self-efficacy, and teacher noticing. His current work focuses on how the Lesson Study model can be applied in initial teacher education.
Professor Garry Falloon
Professor of STEM Education and Digital Learning and Director of International Engagement
Garry Falloon is a professor at the School of Education, Macquarie University, and currently the CI for the ARC Discovery Project: Coding Animated Narratives as Contemporary Multimodal Authorship in Schools, and the NSW lead for the Commonwealth Government’s Principals as STEM Leaders (PASL) project.
Previously he was Professor of Digital Learning in the Faculty of Education at Waikato University in Hamilton, New Zealand. His background includes 22 years teaching and leadership of primary and secondary schools in New Zealand, Education Foundation Manager at Telecom New Zealand, working with Microsoft in the Partners in Learning and Digital Learning Object projects, and as project lead for the New Zealand Government’s $10m Digital Opportunities Project. He has served on numerous advisory and writing panels for eLearning policy and curriculum development, industry and sector advisory boards, and the N.Z Prime Minister’s Panel of Experts for Digital Learning.
His research interests include mobile learning, digital learning in primary and middle schools, online and blended learning, curriculum design, pedagogy and assessment in digitally-supported innovative learning environments, learning in primary science and technology, and educational research methods.
Chan-jong Kim
Professor, Science Education, SNU
Chan-Jong Kim is a Professor in the Department of Earth Science Education at Seoul National University in Seoul, Republic of Korea. He hold a bachelor’s degree in Earth Science Education and master’s degree in Geological Sciences from Seoul National University, Republic of Korea, and a doctoral degree in Science Education from the University of Texas at Austin, United States. His research focuses on scientific modelling as an approach to scientific exploration and learning in various subjects, contents, and contexts and on the development and application of various methods for the analysis of collective talk with the learning of science. Recently, he is particularly interested in education for diverse learners in Korean K-12 on global environmental risks such as climate change.
Jin-woong Song
Professor, Science Education, SNU
Jin-woong Song is a Professor in the Department of Physics Education at Seoul National University in Seoul, Republic of Korea. He is a Fellow of KAST(Korean Academy of Science and Technology). He holds a doctoral degree in Science Education from King’s College London in London, UK. His research focuses on science education in hyper connected society with new technologies and science classroom culture & interactions in east Asia. He is also interested in science curriculum and educational policy.
Professor Yeon-A Son

She is constantly developing educational programs to foster the expertise of pre-service science teachers and school science teachers in STEAM education and integrated science education. Furthermore, she is striving to establish educational models for Sustainable Development (ESD) for the community. Currently, she continues her education and research activities as a professor of science education at Dankook University and director of the Institute of Integrated Science Education of Dankook University.
Dr Andréa Ribeiro
Andréa Ribeiro has a background BSc and MSc on oceanography from Brazilian Federal Universities (2011 and 2014). Later, she studied her PhD in Physics at Macquarie University (2019) developing sensors for monitoring environmental parameters.
Anna Mang

Anna Mang is a Ph.D candidate at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Anna holds a bachelor’s degree in Medical Science, Neuroscience from the University of Sydney, a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Science Education, and a master’s degree in Science Education Research from Macquarie University. Her research interest involves exploring ways to promote science learning through the integration of socio-scientific issues (SSIs) contexts into STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) practices.

Receiving his bachelor’s degree in Earth Science Education from Korea National University of Education and Master’s degree in Science Education from Seoul National University. His research focuses on climate change education in science education. He is particularly interested in engaging students in climate change education to foster their own action competency regarding global environmental issues. Currently, his research subject is on the cultivation of citizenship from various ways of climate change education, such as activities in a school club, and classes based on gamification.
Ki-eun Eom

Ki-eun Eom is a Ph.D student in Science Education at the Seoul National University in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Ki-eun earned a bachelor's degree and masters degree in Earth Science Education from Seoul National University. His research focuses on game-based learning in science education. He is particularly interested in combining games with classroom activities in science class. Currently, he is expanding his research scope to adapt cultural contents into K-12 classroom, especially for diverse students like multicultural students.
Tae Hoon Kim

Teacher Tae-hoon Kim majored in science education and life sciences at Dankook University and graduated with a doctorate in science education from Dankook University's General Graduate School. With 26 years of teaching experience, he is currently teaching Integrated Science at Cheongwoon High School in Yangpyeong. He is interested in the realization of integrated science and sustainable development education in science classrooms, and the impact of teacher-student interactions on learning attitudes.
