This building in HSR layout of Bangalore, sits on a corner plot, with a total built area of 20,000 sq ft on a site of 60 by 80 feet.
In this multi-storeyed commercial building, a void space was introduced after the ground level, so the edge of the building might feel more at a human scale for passers-by. The rest of the levels are treated with orderly square windows, fitted with performance glass to keep heat out, but still bring in natural light.
To add just a hint of playfulness, this entire mass of upper floors is juxtaposed at an angle with respect to the ground floor mass. The client’s aspiration for this project was the typical New York-style, brick building, which inspired a facade that was all brick-clad, detailed out in a classic monk-bond pattern, which created a strong, bold and orderly character.
