Located along the western coastline, near Calicut, this site boasts of a beautiful view of the sea. The design brief was to plan a retirement home for a well-travelled couple, having a floor area of 2500 sq ft. The approach has been to create a modern style building protruding from the land, with simple, box-like form which frames intentional views of the sea.
The entire floor plate of the home is elevated strategically, and is oriented to enjoy the sea vistas. A spacious, covered patio with an outdoor pool become an extension to the living and dining spaces.
The difference in levels between the ground and the first floor is negotiated by a gentle, landscaped mound. The choice of plant species is predominantly tropical, whose foliage aims to provide privacy to the home. The ground floor houses the auxiliary spaces, such as the helper’s quarters, a garage and a multi-purpose space that may be used as a home theatre or gym. The interiors of the home are in a bold contemporary style, with a neutral color palette complemented by rich, natural hardwoods.
