Yiannis Kamarianakis

Yiannis Kamarianakis, PhD, is a Principal Researcher (Associate Professor Grade) at the Institute of Applied and Computational Mathematics of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH). His research focuses on statistical space-time models, which are motivated by transportation and environmental applications. Dr. Kamarianakis has more than 60 publications in scientific journals, book chapters, conference proceedings, technical reports etc. His works appeared in prestigious journals, including Journal of Climate, Environmental Science and Technology, Remote Sensing of Environment, Journal of Geophysical Research, International Journal of Epidemiology, Statistics in Medicine, Applied Stochastic Models in Business and Industry and Transportation Research Part C and Part D. Dr. Kamarianakis has worked on the development of IBM's Traffic Prediction Tool and has filed 3 U.S. Patents. 

Before joining IACM-FORTH, he served as Assistant Professor at the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, Arizona State University (2013-2018), as a researcher at the Mathematical Sciences Department, IBM T.J. Watson Research Center (2010-2013), and as a postdoc at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Cornell University (2008-2010). Dr. Kamarianakis has extensive experience in applied statistics and data-science-related activities; in 2013 he received a prize in TRB’s forecasting competition and was a member of IBM’s teams that achieved 2 runners up positions in IEEE data mining competitions (2010). Currently, Dr. Kamarianakis  serves as Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems and as a member of the Editorial Advisory board for Transportation Research Part C: Emerging Technologies.
