General Frequently asked questions
What is the reopening plan for the fall?
Los Fresnos CISD will begin the new school year on Tuesday, September 8 with remote instruction for the first four weeks of classes. Local health data will be reviewed weekly and, if deemed appropriate, administration will request a waiver from Texas Education Agency for an additional four weeks of remote instruction. After the period of remote instruction, schools will open for in-person instruction under a hybrid (maroon/gold) and on-campus instruction five days a week. Los Fresnos CISD will continue to offer a remote online option for families who opt to continue learning from home.
What are my child’s learning options for the fall?
Remote: All instruction is delivered remotely (online) by Los Fresnos CISD teachers. The remote learning experience will require a laptop or other device and internet connectivity to engage in the learning through Google Classroom.
Hybrid: Students have the opportunity to participate in a combination of in-person and remote learning led by Los Fresnos CISD teachers. Students will be placed on an alternating (Maroon/Gold) schedule. The remote learning experience will require a laptop or other device and internet connectivity to engage in the learning through Google Classroom. This option is available after the period of remote instruction ends.
On Campus: Students will attend school five days a week. This option is available for students from PreK to 8th grade. On-campus classes begin October 12 for Pre-K and Kinder and October 19 for 1st-8th graders.
By when do I need to confirm my child’s enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year?
A digital information booklet has been released on social media and the district website. Parents should complete the questionnaire on the final portion of the booklet to inform administration which learning method they prefer for each of their children. The selection you make in the questionnaire is for the period after remote learning ends.
Beginning Monday, August 10, campuses staff will reach out to parents who do not complete the questionnaire by the August 9 deadline.
Once we select remote, hybrid or on campus can we change our selection?
Yes, families will be able to change their selection up to two weeks before the first day of instruction, the final day to make a change for the start of the school year is Tuesday, August 25. If a family decides to change options during the school year, they will be able to do so, but only at the end of each nine-week marking period. In addition, families must notify the school within two weeks of the end of the marking period if they intend to make a change to their setting.
Under extenuating circumstances, campus administrators will make exceptions and allow a change in the middle of a marking period.
