Graduate Consortium
Introduction
We invite to both master and doctoral students studying in graduate programs related to human-computer interaction (HCI) to submit a research proposal to be considered in the Graduate Consortium
The graduate consortium provides an opportunity to graduate students to share their research results and ideas in and interdisciplinary workshop, under the constructive guidance of a panel of distinguished researchers. Presenting at a graduate consortium will help students to present their work before their dissertation defense and receive guidance during their research process. Moreover, student participants will have the opportunity to find out the work their peers, who will eventually become their potential collaborators of researchers studying problems related to HCI.
Preparing the submissions materials to the graduate consortium
Each research proposal should include:
1. Project Summary
The Research Summary must be two pages long (excluding references if needed) follow the SIGCHI Extended Abstracts Format (2016) available for Word in https://chi2017.acm.org/submission-formats.html and for LaTeX in https://github.com/sigchi/Document-Formats.
This extended abstract must address:
- Introduction
- Related Work
- Research objective
- Methods
- Current results
- Potential conclusions
- With what I need help with?
- References
2. Letter from the primary thesis advisor (optional)
Students are requested to provide a short letter from their advisor noting their year in the program, years until the student should defend, and how the graduate consortium will help with their research.
Student participants should be prepared to give a talk for around 10 minutes about their work during the colloquium. At the end of each talk, we will held a group discussion about their work.
The project Summary and Letter from their advisor must be send in PDF format to mtentori@cicese.mx
E-mail subject: [GC Submission]
Submission deadline : June 30th, 2017
Notification of acceptance: July 20th, 2017
Dates of the event: September 18th, 2017
Selection criteria
This call is open for all graduate students with a research topic approved by their institution and whose dissertation defense is not scheduled before getting the feedback of the colloquium so the student could clearly benefit from such feedback before graduating.
Clarity and quality of the submitted research proposal will be the primary criteria for the selection of the works, with not much emphasis on the degree of advancement of the research.
