- Karakura is home to the Shinsei Seinaru Monastery, the place of worship for Shintoism. Due to the relationship between the religion and nature, it was built in the mountains. First constructed in the year 744 by Buddhist monks, this structure is one of the oldest found in Karakura.
- The Shinsei Seinaru Monastery hosts many different buildings, including a tea house, gift shop, a dojo, and living quarters for all the shrine staff. However, the most prominent building sitting at the center of the monastery is the hall of worship. This structure holds both an offering box and the sacred bell, which alerts the Kami of the incoming prayer. Further up the mountain lies the old shrine, the only building from the old monastery that survived the fires. It is believed to have been built closest to the heart of the Kami and was placed under its protection, allowing it to survive the fire.
- Shintoism is a polytheistic religion based around the Kami The Shinsei Seinaru Monastery worships the mountain Kami Chiharu-Yamatsumi.
- The monastery has been burnt down twice in history. The first was in 1176 due to a rebellion held by the Buddhist monks inhabiting the shrine at the time. In 1228, it was rebuilt and survived for another 350 years before its second destruction. The shrine was burnt down to send a message to the people of Karakura due to their riots against the warlord who held Japan. The Shinsei Seinaru Monastery was rebuilt yet again in the year 1617, where it remains a symbol of hope and history.
