Weight modulation of bayan

We employed  a bayan weighing 3.8 kg with its syahi off centred by 3.2 cm .  We present here six sound samples from such a bayan.

1.  /ɽ/ bol excited at a position between G4 and G5 (positions G1 to G8 is shown in the figure given below).

2.  /ɡaː/ bol excited at a position between G1 and G8 without placing the wrist on the membrane.

3.  /ɡʰe/ bol excited at a position between G1 and G8 while placing the wrist on the membrane between positions G4 and G5 and exerting a weight of 2.1 kg.

4.  /ɡʰe/ bol excited at a position between G1 and G8 while placing the wrist on the membrane between positions G4 and G5 and exerting a weight of 5.9 kg.

5.  /ɡʰe/ bol excited at a position between G1 and G8 while placing the wrist on the membrane between positions G4 and G5 and exerting a weight of 11 kg.

6.  All the above sounds played sequentially.

The lowest peak frequency varied from 68 Hz to 93 Hz as the weight from the wrist varied from 0 to 11 kg
