MILITARY SERVICE IS NOT COMPULSORY AND NO CADET IS REQUIRED, OR EXPECTED TO JOIN THE MILITARY IN ANY WAY. Many cadets choose to join the military so this is a list of resources to help them get the most out of it.
There are several types of ways to join the military, bellow are pages regarding the types of ways to enter service, and select the route that best fits you. Since we are the Auxiliary for the Air Force, we will primarily list Air Force options here, with one exception.
Commissioned Officers are the leadership of our military and are automatically granted a higher rank and level of respect then anyone joining the military off the street. There are several ways to join the Commissioned Officer corps of the United States. You are required to have a Bachelors degree from an accredited university.
The Air Force Academy is one of the premier Engineering schools in the country. All Students join the Military as 2d Lt's, and recieve a Bachelors of Science, upon graduation.
The Air Force ROTC program is taken in conjunction with regular college courses, and trains cadets to become future Air Force Officers. Most large colleges have an AFROTC Detachment on campus, if not almost every university and junior college offers a cross town program. AFROTC offers competitve scholarships for students.
If you already posses a bachelors degree, or are within a year of finishing, then USAFA and AFROTC might not be right for you. The Air Force offers a nine and a half week bootcamp for college graduates which grant them a commission as a 2d Lt upon completion.
So you want to be a military pilot? Military pilots must still comission through one of the above three sources, but need some other special items on their resume. On top of maintaining great grades, this guide will help you be the best applicant you can be.
The Air Force does not have a warrant officer corp, but every other branch of the military does. Warrant Officers are subject matter experts that serve as leaders in their fields. Being a warrant officer requires no college degree, but does require specialized training
Army Warrant Officer Flight training is the only way to become a military aviator with NO COLLEGE DEGREE. Warrant officers candidates can apply right off the street and fly any aircraft in the Army's fleet.
Enlisted men and women are the backbone of our military. They are specialists and highly trained in their respective fields. They serve as the primary warfighting force and are the largest group of members in the military. The Air Force offers several ways to enlist.
Active Duty is the most common way to enlist. Active Duty Enlistee's typically sign a four year contract and leave home to serve where the Air Force needs them.
Revervists serve their country in a part time capacity.
Air Guardsmen serve both their state and nation in part time and full time positions.
