Air Force ROTC offers a series of specialized classes and hands-on Leadership Laboratories that will give you a better understanding of the different functions of military leadership and will provide the tools to help you succeed in your future career as an Air Force officer.
AEROSPACE STUDIES
As a cadet in the program, you will take two Air Force ROTC classes per semester: Aerospace Studies and Leadership Laboratory. The Aerospace Studies class is designed to educate you on a wide range of topics that progress through your time in AFROTC. You will learn everything from the basics of being in the Air Force to leadership, management topics, and national security issues.
LEADERSHIP LABORATORY
In addition to what you learn in the classroom, you’ll also have the opportunity to apply that knowledge in Leadership Laboratory. During Lead Lab, you will be taught things like military drill and ceremonies and military customs and courtesies, as well as be given the opportunity to participate in leadership exercises. Lead Lab consists of a two-hour class held once per week and one-hour physical training sessions two times per week.

FIELD TRAINING
During the summer between your sophomore and junior year, you will participate in Field Training, a two-week encampment that includes physical conditioning, weapons, and survival training. Field Training is held at Maxwell AFB, AL. While at Field Training you will be evaluated on your leadership potential and be provided with the opportunity to expand your skills as both a leader and team member.
High school scholarships are granted to students who are still in high school and are planning to attend universtiy and join AFROTC their first year of college in the fall. High school Scholarships are competitve so you will want to make yourself the best candidate. For more information please see AFROTC's website about High School Scholarships
If you are already a college student, you will have to join an ROTC detachment before being able to compete for a scholarship. For more information please see the AFROTC page on college scholarships.
In accordance with AFROTCI 36-2011, Cadet Operations, 22 June 2018, CAP Members are entitled to certain advancements in the ROTC Program. 3.15. GMC/POC Accreditation states "In cases where cadets enter the AFROTC program with less than 4 years remaining in their academic degree program, Det/CCs may accredit cadets for completion of...Civil Air Patrol (CAP) awards..." Mitchell recipients may skip 1 semester of the General Military Course.
Earhart recipients may skip 2 semesters of the General Military Course.
Eaker/Spaatz recipients may skip 3 semesters of the General Military Course.
