Becoming a pilot in the military is an obtainiable and realistic goal. Civil Air Patrol is uniquely positioned to make you a better candidate to reach that goal. On top of maintaining good grades, (military academies like to see 3.8 or higher unweighted GPA, ROTC likes to see 3.5 or higher for scholarship cadets) the following events and activities will give you a great advantage when it comes to working towards a pilot slot in any of the military branches. These items are roughly laid out in order they should be participated in.

How to complete: Work with your cadet staff to learn about O-Ride Opportunities
Reason for completing: O-Rides are the first 5 free flight hours a cadet gets to take. This is a great way to see if flying is for you and agrees with your physiology

How to complete: Monitor your email, the California Wing Encampment Website, and communicate with staff to stay up to date on encampments. Encampments happen during the winter and summer and each state hosts their own.
Reason for Completing: Encampment is a required training for almost every advanced event in CAP.

Reason for completing: This school will give you your Solo endorsement and give you roughly 10 hours as pilot in command.

How to Complete: once pre-reqs are met, reference CAPP 60-43.

Reason for completing: This course will take you to the base where the majority of air force officer leadership training is completed and put you through an abbreviated version of Squadron Leadership School, the course required by Air force Captains. This will give you the best leadership training and allow you to check another box on an academy/ ROTC application.
