Spotlight Playhouse is pleased to present The Spotlight on New Works Play Reading Series. As playwrights work to illuminate the human condition, they have many considerations in the creation of a final work. With these free readings, 'Spotlight on New Works' hopes to aid local New England playwrights while showing our audiences aspects of this playwriting process that bring the work from paper to the stage.
Presentations will begin with a reading of one or more short works followed by a talkback with cast, and even authors, where you can ask questions and learn more about each play. Please check back often to see our latest offerings, and follow us on Instagram and Facebook.

DAY JOB by Martha Douglas-Osmundson
The ‘Spotlight on New Works Play Reading Series’ began with a reading of 'Day Job' by playwright Martha Douglas-Osmundson
Day Job explores the Art we make and its relationship to our dreams, aspirations, and actions. We felt that this first new work would feel especially relevant to our Spotlight Playhouse audiences, production teams and performing artists.
Martha Douglas-Osmundson is on the faculty of Lincoln School in Providence, RI. She is a recipient of the Charles M. Sullivan Award for Distinguished Service in the Arts (Pell Award) for her program, Shakespeare in the City. Martha is a member of the Blue Cow playwriting group, and she has seen her work performed at Boston Theater Marathon XXII; Providence Fringe Festival, Lemon Punch Theatre Lab Micro Play Festival; Coronavirus Play Festival, NYC; Culture*Park, New Bedford; Trinity Rep’s America Too: 2019, WomensWork Theatre Collaborative, the St. Luke's Little Theatre, Acting Up (Orange (CT) Players Festival), and AS220 (From Scratch works-in-progress).
