Themes are a fun and engaging way to learn speech and language skills in a natural way. My students love "Under the Sea" week and my "Camping" activities! They get to learn about a preferred topic in-depth and can spend their brain space learning the vocabulary and language skills involved rather than using it up learning a new topic at the same time.
For example, during October we spend a week or two learning about El Dia de los Muertos - we can spend one session looking at the event and celebration, one session doing compare/ contrast with Halloween, one session learning all the new vocabulary, and one session coloring sugar skulls and watching Coco as a reinforcement!
Below are some of the themes I like to do with my students throughout the year.
