Echo questions

Used typically to express surprise, or even questioning what the other person said. 

Anna is quite a nice person. 

Is she? 

I live near him, actually. 

Do you? 

I saw Brad Pitt once in Madrid. 

Did you? 

I can play the guitar. 

Can you? 

The Beatles are the best band ever. 

Are they? (Perhaps because this person does not think they are the best)

The man is surprised at the news the woman is sharing with him.

Did you?  

In this job interview, the candidate seems to be overwhelming the pannel with information, and they have to pretend that they are following her presentation when probably they are not. So Ian's use of did you? is probably helping him pretend that he understands.

(There has been media outcry at Ian's salary, which is higher than the Prime Minister's. Ian is arguing his case in front of other senior executives and the Head of Human Resources)

by the same token (=using the same argument/in the same way/for the same reason)
