Dr. Ling Bian is the Director of the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis at Buffalo (NCGIA-Buffalo), also a Professor in the Department of Geography at the University at Buffalo. Her current research interests include the conceptual and analytical frameworks for the representation of mobility and interaction, and networked phenomena. Articles based on her research have been published in top journals in the fields of geography and GIS. These include journals of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Annals of the American Association of Geographer, and International Journal of Geographical Information Science, among others. Dr. Bian is a recipient of Leica Geosystems Award for Best Scientific Paper in Remote Sensing awarded by the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, among other awards. These research works have been supported by a number of successful NIH, NSF, and other competitive grants. Dr. Bian is the editor of the Annals of the American Association of Geographers (the Geographic Methods section), served as an Associate Editor for a highly ranked international remote sensing journal, and is presently and was in recent past serving on editorial boards of a number of GIScience journals. She also served on the Senior Advisory Panel of the Geography and Spatial Science Program of the National Science Foundation and multiple review panels of the National Institutes of Health. She has also served on program committees of highly regarded international GIScience conferences, and the Board of Directors of the University Consortium for Geographic Information Sciences.
