¡Muy importante! Before you proceed, please make sure to upload your profile picture here on Canvas to the following required specifications by the California Community College (CCC) to verify you are indeed the actual student taking this class. Your profile photo must be of yourself (not a landscape, not a pet, not a hobby). The photo of yourself must be:
Taken within the last 3 months to reflect your current appearance.
Taken in full face view directly facing the camera (not just your eyes, not just your mouth, not just partial view of you face).
Uploaded in normal, upright position (not sideways, not upside down).
Taken in clothing that you normally wear on a daily basis.
Uniforms should not be worn in your photo, except religious clothing that is worn daily.
Do not wear a hat or head covering that obscures the hair or hairline, unless worn daily for a religious purpose. Your full face must be visible, and the head covering must not cast any shadows on your face.
Headphones, wireless hands-free devices, or similar items are not acceptable.
Emojis, stickers used to decorate your face are not acceptable.
Eyeglasses must not cover the eyes (do not wear sunglasses).
If you normally wear a hearing device or similar articles, they may be worn in your photo.
While this is a hybrid class where we will meet in person on Mondays from 11:00 am to 1:20 pm. Attendance is required and is worth 10% of your final grade. We will also be using Canvas as our Learning Management System. In the orientation unit, you will have a chance to navigate through this LMS to familiarize yourself with it. This class requires you to participate actively in our discussion boards, Q&A Forum, assignments and/or group work. You will have many ways to contact me. You can simply click on the button "Contact Via Email" on the Front Page or email me directly to this address: debbie.lin@chaffey.edu. All the buttons you see on the Front Page (red or blue), are links that will take you directly to where you want to go.
Because this is an online course, you will need to make sure you have access to the following in order to complete the coursework:
COMPUTER: You will need to use either a regular laptop or desktop computer. You are welcome to use the Canvas app on your mobile device. Our college offers access to some computers if you ever need one.
BROWSER: The most compatible browser is Google Chrome and Firefox. Microsoft Edge and Safari have a tendency to freeze, not load images nor upload recordings on Canvas; so if you have an Apple product, please download the Chrome browser. Otherwise, you'll have difficulty reading the information or it would not keep track of the points you have earned as you complete these assignments.
DOC AND PDF FILES: You will need to view, edit and save standard word processing files, such as .doc, docx files. Microsoft Office is the standard and this will be the safest platform for us to use. You will find in Module CP.12 how to download the "free" Microsoft Office suite to your computer. Check what file types are accepted on each assignment (Generally, they would be the same for all written assignments). You will also need to be able to view PDF files, either in your browser or using software such as Adobe Reader.
RECORD YOUR VOICE: You will need to be able to record your voice on your computer. Most laptops have a built-in microphone, but if you're using a desktop computer, you may need to buy or borrow a USB microphone. In certain cases, you may be able to use a cell phone for audio recordings instead, but a computer microphone is recommended for maximum compatibility. Canvas offers a handy "record/media" option to facilitate your recording.
