Carlos buys a new guppy who he names Ripley. Ripley needs a home, but the fish bowl needs to be set up first. As he fills it up he is teaching students units of measure. If students are more advanced in math they can practice units of measure such as how many cups makes a pint, quart, and gallon.

The King wants to get his queen something she doesn't have. He wants to get her a bed, however, he doesn't know what size the bed should be. Students will follow along discovering how to measure a bed without them being invented yet. They will learn the concepts of length and distance.

Despite their two completely different statures, Elephant and Mouse want to balance a seesaw. With no luck the other animals join in trying to get Elephant off the ground. What final animal lifts Elephant up? Students will learn that every little bit matters when balancing.

Inchworm can measure any kind of animal. Then one day a nightingale says he will eat him unless he can measure the song he sings. Will he be able to do it? This story will help students practice measuring with non-standard units of measure.

This activity gives students the chance to practice measuring in a large open area. They will also be practicing gross motor skills of pouring. To make it more interesting, you can dye the water and use different cups for measuring.

If you have playing cards or Uno cards, dice, and snap cubes, you can do this activity! Students can use the snap cubes to graph the numbers on the cards.

This activity is super simple to play at home. Your student can collect different small objects from their pencil case or desk and practice weight on the door. This is truly a hands-on experience.

This activity is certainly a fun one to do with family or friends. This is an activity that gives kids direct experiences with comparing and ordering objects with non-standard measurement. This can also be done with hands, height, arms, and more.
