As a Junior High School teacher, I am passionate about sharing the knowledge and resources I have acquired through graduate studies, research, and experience in the classroom. I have had the opportunity to present some of this mater to my colleagues during divisional PD days. Click here to access the October, 2023 ATA PD Presentation.
I was born and raised in the Peace Country. After travelling extensively and living overseas in Scotland and Ireland for nearly a decade, I returned to the Peace Country with my husband to start a family (we are currently the proud parents of two adult sons and two border collies).
My professional journey began as an Educational Assistant (EA) with the Peace River School Division. It was this experience that inspired me to return to school and, with the support of my husband and sons, complete my B.Ed. in Elementary Education with Distinction from the University of Alberta (through the Teacher Education North program at Grande Prairie Regional College).
I have now been teaching, learning, and growing with the division for 18 years: eight years as an EA in elementary and junior high; six years teaching Grades 4-6; and, four years teaching and as a learning supports coach in junior /senior high school.
I am passionate about character development through athletics and remain active as a coach (basketball and cross country running), an official (basketball), and an athlete (marathon and ultra runner).
Recently, I have completed graduate studies in Teaching, Learning, and Neuroscience through the University of Lethbridge.
Graduate studies through the University of Lethbridge has been the most rewarding and challenging experience of my professional career. It has made me a better teacher, a better parent, and a much better learner. I cannot thank my marvellous professors and amazing cohort enough for the experience!
For those teachers interested in pursuing graduate studies in education, my advice is to go for it! I rate my experience five out of five stars!
