Southgate PTA brings together parents, teachers, and community members to support Southgate Elementary School. Our budget supports education programs, including curriculum, instruction, field trips, and school supplies.
Because of your membership dues and generous PTA donations, we are able to support programs and special events:
Better and Brighter Budget 2024-2025
Teacher/Staff Classroom Supplies Stipend - INCREASED to $7,500
Field Trip Fund - INCREASED to $20,800
Parent Room - INCREASED to $1,000
School Assemblies - NEW - $1,500
Art Supplies for Art Show - INCREASED to $100

Fund 5th Grade Science Camp to reduce cost for families ($50 per student). Additional, ~$50 per student when including February fundraisers. Families paid remaining cost of camp.

Purchased discontinued Spirit Wear from school to sell and setting up NEW online merchandise website (~$2000)
Applied and Received Grants for PTA Peralta District ($200 for PTEZ, PTA financial system and $1000 Scholarship for Fall Festival)
Purchased School Mascot costume, Mr. Grizz ($600)
Movie Licensing fee for any movie showing at school ($550)
Setup weekly classroom-hosted Nacho Sale for classroom profit.
Snacks and goodies for Testing Weeks for student focus (~$550)

Refreshed Teacher and Staff Lounge (~$400 with furniture donations)
Provided Wednesday lunch and stocked lounge refrigerator for Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week and families provided breakfast (~$1000)
Hosted School Dance and Ice Cream Social (~$1200)
Fund 6th Grade Science Camp to reduce cost for families ($50 per student). Additional, ~$20 per student when including some March fundraisers. Class fundraisers and families paid remaining cost of camp.

****Last Year's Field Trips (2023-2024)****
TK-K - On-site "Field Trip" Mad Science special workshop. Each class will get their own workshop and 1 assembly together.
1st Grade - SF Zoo - $2000 for admissions and partial transportation fees.
2nd Grade - The Tech Interactive in San Jose - $2000 for admissions and partial transportation fees.
3rd Grade - Round 1 Bowling & Arcade - $2000 for food, games, bowl and fun!
4th Grade - Oakland Zoo - $2000 for admissions and partial transportation fees.
5th Grade - Walker Creek Science Camp (4 days, 3 nights) in Petaluma - $2000 for transportation fee (one way) and help reduce camp cost per student. Another $50 per student who attends camp. All February Nacho Sales and Fundraiser profits with parent help.
6th Grade - Mt. Hermon Outdoor Camp (4 days, 3 nights) in the Santa Cruz Mountain - $2000 to help reduce camp cost per student. Another $50 per student who attends camp. All March Nacho Sales and Fundraiser profits with parent help.
Special Education (SPED) - California Academy of Sciences - $2000 for admissions and partial transportation fees.
Some field trips exceed the $2000 per grade level limit that PTA can provide, therefore, teachers will sometimes ask parents for additional funds.
Please note that transportation can cost anywhere from $800- $1500 per bus depending on the field trip location - one way.
