We here at South Bay Tennis do not condone gambling. We understand the harmful effects of gambling addiction and refer anyone with these issues to the gambling hotline. However, we do realize that taking risks for large rewards is part of human nature and some people will wager a gamble whether it is recommended or not.
Due to the popularity of South Bay Tennis and the tennis mega superstars who play here, we face the decision whether to allow sports betting on our matches and players. In an ideal world, fans of South Bay Tennis would enjoy the purity of the sport and not wager on sporting events; however, the reality is that people do. We can choose to ignore the issue or tackle it head on.
After much debate and listening to both sides, we ultimately decided that it is better to accept, regulate, and monitor all wagering activities at South Bay Tennis. In the end, we believe that we can better serve our fans if we legitimize, monitor and intervene (as needed) instead of stigmatize the activity.
