It is often said that tennis is a mentally taxing game. Well, compared to chess tennis, the mental stress of a regular tennis match is like taking an afternoon nap.
What is chess tennis? Like chess boxing, it is a game that combines the physical sport of tennis and the mental game of chess. Only those with the highest skills in both disciplines dare venture into this taxing and brutal sport.
A player wins a chess tennis match if one of the following happens (whichever comes first)
First player to win 6 games. If the score is 6-5, the player who won 6 games wins the match. No tiebreaks and no winning by two games.
Checkmates the opponent or the opponent runs out of time.
Chess: 10 minute games (i.e., each side gets 10 minutes)
Coin toss: the player who wins the coin toss can decide either which color of the chess board OR whether to serve first. The loser of the coin toss decide the other option.
Chess Tennis Match
Player begin the chess tennis match by first playing 1 game of tennis
On every tennis change over
A chess round is played for 4 minutes (wall clock time).
After 4 minutes of chess, players continue the tennis match.
A chess round is played after each tennis change over until a winner is declared.
