Lola’s Review
Food: 8/10
Let’s get one thing out of the way right now: Lola’s is a seafood restaurant through and through. So when my wife and I stopped in for lunch on a rainy Saturday, I fully expected the seafood to shine and anything else on the menu to simply exist as a courtesy. Turns out, I was very wrong.
My wife ordered the Fried Oyster Po’ Boy, and it was the star of the ride home. In fact, she talked about it the entire way back. The oysters were lightly breaded, perfectly fried, and packed with flavor. The bread was soft and fresh while still sturdy enough to hold everything together without falling apart halfway through the meal. The Creole tartar sauce added just the right amount of kick and tied everything together beautifully. The true test of any sandwich, though, is how it holds up the next day, and according to my wife, the leftovers were just as delicious.
As for me, I went with the Smash Cheeseburger, and honestly, it caught me completely off guard. Since seafood is clearly the main attraction here, I assumed the burger might be one of those token menu items for people who don't eat seafood. Nope. Not even close.
This burger was crafted with care and attention, not tossed on the menu as an afterthought. It was juicy, flavorful, and cooked exactly the way a smash burger should be. Every bite made it obvious somebody in that kitchen cares about what they're serving. I’d confidently recommend this burger to anyone, seafood lover or not.
Then there were the Fried Green Tomatoes, which were absolutely fire. The breading was light, crispy, and perfectly crunchy without overpowering the tomatoes themselves. The tomato sauce and melted cheese elevated the dish to another level. Best of all, the tomatoes retained their texture and stayed firm instead of turning into mush, which is where a lot of places miss the mark.
Service: 7/10
Despite the gloomy weather, Lola’s had a healthy crowd when we arrived. We were seated quickly, which is always a good start. Our waitress was friendly and gave us enough time to settle in and look over the menu without feeling rushed. Orders were taken on a tablet, which kept things moving efficiently.
This is where things become a little difficult to judge.
My wife and I were enjoying ourselves and weren't closely watching the room, but it did seem like several tables that arrived after us received their food before we did. Maybe there was a kitchen timing issue or perhaps our meals simply took a bit longer to prepare. Either way, it wasn't enough to ruin the experience, but it was noticeable.
There was also a minor mix-up when a bowl of crab and corn chowder arrived at our table that we hadn't ordered. Since we had ordered cornbread, it's easy to see how wires may have gotten crossed. The important part is that our waitress handled the mistake immediately and had the issue corrected without any hassle.
No restaurant is perfect, and what matters is how mistakes are handled. Lola’s recovered quickly and professionally.
Vibe: 8/10
Lola’s has the charm of a neighborhood hidden gem. The restaurant is small and almost feels like someone converted a house into a cozy dining spot. Instead of feeling cramped, though, it creates an intimate and welcoming atmosphere.
The vibe was relaxed and unpretentious. The bar area was packed, conversations were flowing, and there was a constant buzz of people genuinely enjoying themselves. It wasn't loud or chaotic, just lively in the best possible way.
The combination of laughter, conversation, and great food created the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to linger a little longer than you planned.
Cost Effectiveness: 7/10
Overall, the pricing felt fair.
The smash burger delivered excellent value considering the quality and portion size. The Po’ Boy came in a bit higher than expected, but there’s a reasonable explanation. Oysters were out of season, and since seafood pricing fluctuates with market availability, the sandwich reflected that reality.
Would I have preferred it to be cheaper? Sure. Did it stop us from enjoying it? Not at all.
Amenities: 8/10
Parking can make or break a dining experience before it even starts, and Lola’s gets high marks here. There was plenty of parking surrounding the building, including ample handicap-accessible spaces.
For a smaller restaurant, the seating arrangement was surprisingly comfortable. Tables weren't packed on top of each other, and the spacing allowed for private conversation without feeling crowded by neighboring diners.
One thing worth mentioning: the lighting is on the dim side. It contributes to the cozy atmosphere, but if you've reached the age where menus seem to shrink their font size every year, you may want to keep your phone flashlight handy.
Final Verdict:
7.65 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My wife had been talking about trying Lola’s for nearly a year, and eventually we decided, "What the hell, let's go."
As someone who isn't a huge seafood fan, I admittedly wasn't expecting this place to impress me as much as it did. My wife got the seafood experience she was hoping for, while I discovered one of the most unexpectedly good burgers I've had from a seafood-focused restaurant.
Yes, there was a minor service hiccup or two, but they were addressed quickly and professionally. What stood out most was the quality of the food, the inviting atmosphere, and the feeling that this is a place run by people who genuinely care about what they're serving.
If you're looking for a charming local spot with excellent seafood, a surprisingly outstanding burger, and a welcoming atmosphere, Lola’s deserves a spot on your must-visit list.
Do yourself a favor and go give it a try.
