"I attended the Introduction to PPV simulation course at UCT to gain a better understanding of the fundamentals of vitreoretinal surgery. The course was led by Dr Rice and Dr Steffen, both of whom are wonderful teachers and surgeons. The lectures were clear and concise with lots of guided wet lab and simulator time that allowed us to develop our bi-manual hand-eye coordination and microscope-driving skills in a safe environment. Vitreoretinal surgery has a notoriously steep learning curve, and this course is designed to help with the initial skills before learning on live patients. As a result of the course, I now have a deeper understanding of the complexities of PPV surgery and feel prepared to start learning vitreoretinal surgery in a supervised surgical unit."
