Amsterdam is a pretty cool city and probably one of those places that every person my age feels they have to go to. Cycling is a HUGE thing there and I very quickly realised that when you hear a bike bell, move as fast as your legs will allow you to or you'll be flattened. The Netherlands have their own type of bike so if you're planning on renting one, be sure you are comfortable with it before going on a journey with it. I learned the hard way and fell off of my bike...
Berlin has a lot going on for it. It's full of history, the nightlife scene is buzzing and the people there are progressive and retro. I couldn't write a bad word about the place because it is such a lovely and cool city. However, I just truly didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. Perhaps because every person I had spoken to before I went, gave it such a glowing review that my expectations were too high or maybe it was the fact that my heart belongs to Munich, either way, the place is great but to me, was not the greatest.
The love of my life, apple of my eye. I first went to Munich with my family when I was about 10, I went again with me sister when I was 16 and then returned again just last year. I have always have a special fondness for this city. The people, the delicious food, the beer! Everything is simple, pleasant and perfect. My relatives also live in Munich and maybe that's another reason I love the place so much- side note: their house is so cool and so German and perfect and if you knew you would agree. I can't articulate just what makes this place so great, but my sister can. Check out her guide here.
With the way we organised inter-railing, we ended up not having a lot of time to spend in Prague, however, the two days we did have there were fabulous. The John Lennon wall, for starts, was so overwhelming but such a lovely scene. There were people playing music, people adding to the wall and others doing exactly what we were doing- taking it all in. Then there's the ice-cream doughnut cones...WOW! I would love to go back and spend more time in this place because if it gave me so much in two days, I can only imagine what else it has to offer.
We ended up in Budapest when the weather was 43° and let me tell you, it was chaotic. I was constantly damp and when a breeze came, it was warm making me more sticky. Needless to say, a lot of our time was spent in the baths. Now they were amazing. We went to one that had water slides and all in it and it was exactly what I needed. The next day I realised I had left my flip flops in the baths and so began walking to the shop barefoot to buy another pair... The soles of my feet had blisters for days! This place has a lot to offer but be sure you go when it's not that hot.
This is probably the most peaceful place I have ever been to. We arrived there and automatically it was as though everything slowed down and became quieter. I've never been as relaxed as I was there. The scene looks fake it is so beautiful, I kept trying to take pictures of the place but each time I did, I realised the picture doesn't do the place justice despite the people I sent it to saying it looked like a postcard. No words can describe how phenomenal this place is. That's why, I decided to para-glide while I was there. That was a great experience whilst also a great way to get a view of the place. 10/10 would recommend to a friend.
An island just off of Croatia. I can't say we did a lot of sightseeing whilst here, consider it the part island of Croatia. However, the little bits I did see were beautiful and the beaches were stunning. However, I can really only talk about the social scene. The people there are very nice and very funny. There's always a pool party to go to and I'm not sure the island ever takes a break. I enjoyed this place but don't go if you're looking for a relaxing get-away.
Although I do love Munich, Barcelona 110% owns my heart. I don't think there is a better city. Writing this has actually made me excited to return. My love for this place actually began before I had even been. The Cheetah Girls 2- a Disney channel original- was filmed here and from then on I was hooked. Check it out. Then when I was in 5th year in School, we were taken on a class trip there and let me tell you, Barcelona is even better than The Cheetah Girls portray. I then returned last year after my sister got me and my mum tickets for our Birthdays. I want you all to know, if you haven't been to Barcelona.. GO. It's worth it. The people are fantastic, the food is obviously delicious but the scenes? The scenes are something to stand and stare at in awe. Here's my sisters blog post on it.
