As I've mentioned, I spent 3 months in Vancouver in 2017 with two of my best friends. I worked for 2 months and spent the last month just chilling out and discovering the place. I worked in a place called Kokopelli and it was honestly the luckiest thing I got that job. I had only brought 12 CV's with me and I handed my last CV into Jason (the manager of Kokopelli) who had said they usually don't hire people who are only there for the summer but their barista had just quit and I had two year barista experience. The rest is history..
Canada is always mocked for people there being so nice and the rumours are true. My goodness! It was shocking to see how nice people were. Tipping is a must and the lowest they'll tip is 10%. There's no such thing as Jay Walking over there, if the man is red... you wait regardless of whether the coast is clear.
Things kind of went belly up for us in the first month of being there, I suppose because we had never lived in such close quarters before that we began getting narky with each other and we were arguing a lot and people got upset and anyway, in the end, one of the girls ended up moving in with a different group of people while myself and the other girl had to find a new place to live. We looked on craigslist and found a place in 5 minutes. Now, technically there was only 5 others living with us in the house, however, I'm going to say there was always at least 12 people in the house at one time. I thought it was going to be chaotic but it was the best time and I have made friends for life because of it. They took us under their wing and couldn't have been more accommodating to us.
I remember one time I had no change for the bus and was trying to get a taxi because I was going to end up being late for work and one of the girls gave me her bus card because she was going out of town for the weekend so she wouldn't be using it while one of the guys gave me a lift into work despite the fact it was his day off and his plan was not to get out of bed all day. I mean it when I say the people are the friendliest.
After the two months, we traveled over to Whistler for 3 days. It was breath taking for starters, the mountains were gorgeous and the log cabins were even better. We went zip lining which I will say was terrifying at the start but probably one of the best things I have ever done. There were 5 zip lines in total:
It was such an amazing experience. I never got to see a bear which I am devastated about but these things happen I suppose.
