Game Modelling
Game Modelling
Learnt 3D model creation workflow specially for the game production pipeline. This includes Polygon Mesh construction methods and Texturing concepts for 3D game production. In addition, Digital Content Creation (DCC) tools for application to 3D modelling techniques such as low-poly mesh and digital Texturing practices were covered as well.
Project Deliverables:
Research of Game Assets and Theme
Creation of 3 Simple Game Assets Researched Previously
Creation of 3 Game Assets of a higher difficulty
Level Creation.
Some of the research I have done for game asset and theme can be seen above. For this part of the assignment, I was to conduct research on games in the market and create 3 simple 3D game models related to the theme based on the research on game assets done.
The three pictures above show some of the models that I have created for the project. Some other models include a stone portal, fence, geometric trees and lamppost.
This is how a level should look like with all models incorporated into it based on the mock-up done during research.
Outcome of the Project:
Design the look of a level using the created game assets.
What I learnt from the project:
Firstly, I learnt the basic techniques of modelling game objects which will help me build a foundation to learn more advanced techniques of game modelling in the future. In addition, I learnt how to do basic modelling with Maya and this experience could help me in the future when I pick up other modelling software. Lastly, I learnt how to manage my time better through game modelling as it is pretty tedious and takes quite a bit of time to complete. Thus, along the way as I learnt, I had to manage my time better in order to submit the assignment punctually. For example, I started to set buffer time for each game asset that I had to complete which would give me extra time to complete the asset if I couldn't finish it by the deadline that I set for myself so as to not push back the entire schedule.
