"In the explosive beginning of the universe, a massive comet formed from the most rare and unique elements brought into existence. For billions of years the comet drifted through space, undisturbed, until it found itself on a collision course with the planet we call home一Mobius.
The first Chaos to reach our planet, Strength, erupted against the jagged peaks of the northern continent and bled down their steep slopes in a torrent of crimson.
As Mind approached, the mountains—already drenched in Chaos—repelled it and sent it crashing into the canyons and valleys that veined out across the land, coloring them with a flood of orange and gold.
The third of the Chaos to reach our planet, Spirit, descended upon the lush jungles of the equator. Slowed by the dense canopy, it dissolved into the leaves and branches that had caught it, painting them with its violet hues.
The juggernaut, Speed, collided with the central continent’s grand plateau, flattening it down into a sweeping grassland of azure fulmination and fierce winds.
Vision plunged itself into the depths of our planet’s oceans, dissolving and turning the clear waters into a viridescent liquid-crystal.
The final Chaos to reach our planet, Time, shattered as it pierced the atmosphere and fragmented into a paradoxical loop of dazzling aquamarine—forever undulating and shifting above us.
...But there was a seventh Chaos, one that never reached Mobius...
A furnace of limitless energy and drive, it flew past our planet, beyond our star, and out of our system into the infinite vastness of space一its fate forever unknown..."
—Clever, the Frog, 'The Chaos'
Design—Primitive: grass-huts, burrows, tents, and geometrically-based artwork, e.g. rings, triangles, chevrons, arrows, etc.
Of all the inhabitants of Mobius, those that call the Electric Wilds their home are the least ‘civilized’. Referring to themselves simply as “Wild Ones,” these nomads arrive and disperse as quickly as a snap of thunder or a flash of lightning; never staying in one place for more than a couple days at a time.
Preferring the outdoors over a house or town, Wild Ones tend to sleep out in the open, usually in tents and small camps, though they are known to hunker down in intricate burrows from time to time—usually to escape from an especially nasty tornado or storm.
Due to their speed and impermanent living conditions, little is known of the Wild Ones, except that they sometimes appear “out of thin air” to perform some “heroic or courageous feat,” seemingly solely for the thrill of the challenge一what the Wild One’s call “Adventure.”
Design—Steampunk/Silkpunk: Using green/renewable tech, like solar, hydroelectric, and wind. Their 'automobiles' are like Strandbeests and the 'planes' are like dirigibles and helicopters. Their ranged weaponry is akin to dart and airsoft guns, sometimes resembling sling-shots/crossbows.
The industrious Mobians of Wind City call themselves “Zephyrs,” and the Chaos of Mind gave them the intellectual capacity to deal with everyday-life through the use of technology and machines. From farming, transportation, recreation, and defense—Wind City represents the pinnacle of 'modern civilization' on the planet.
Since they have the most advanced form of technology on the planet, some Zephyrs see themselves as ‘superior’ to other Mobians, though most are more than willing to share their insight and technology with anyone—provided they are capable of using it without hurting themselves or breaking the gadget/machine.
Design—Native/First Peoples: Not just one culture, but many, differing throughout the Clans; i.e. Aboriginal, Ainu, Bedouin, Mapuche, Navajo, Zulu, etc.
These Mobians refer to themselves simply as "Kin," and the Chaos of Strength has made them the most resilient beings on the planet. Due to this, Kin are more interested in hunting and brawling than races and gadgets, and as such they are seen as more aggressive and short-tempered than other Mobians.
Living in the high mountains means that land is scarce, so dwellings are carved into the peaks and cliffs, connected by an intricate labyrinth of tunnels. However, some Kin can maneuver through the sky by riding the drafts of hot and cool air that surrounds their lands. From high atop their mountain-peak villages the Kin see themselves as 'stewards of the planet,' routinely coming to aid of those they deem 'weak' and 'soft.'
Design—East/South-East Asian/Indian: raised wooden pagodas, waterways/canals, astrological motifs, stupas, meditation gardens
The "Disciples," as they call themselves, were granted the gift of augury, oneiromancy, and divination from the Chaos of Vision. They are the only Mobians who know the true origins of their planet, their powers, and even the Chaos itself.
Nearly all the Disciples are aquatic and dwell beyond the reach of other Mobians, though those among them that are amphibians reside on the estuaries and coasts. These are known as “Sages,” and many Mobians come from all around to learn what they can about the many mysteries of life.
The Disciples rarely divulge more than what they are asked, as they have learned that the knowledge of the future is usually a terrible burden to bear, and—most importantly—that too much foreknowledge can alter future events and usher in calamity.
Design—Jungle shelters: vine-bridges, lean-to’s, igloos, and tree-top nests/roosts.
The Chaos of Spirit made the Mobians it affected, known as "Spectres," able to commune with all the other life forms on the planet. From the smallest blade of grass to the largest stone, all nature bends to the will of a Spectre.
True lovers of nature, Spectres do not build permanent dwellings or cities, instead choosing a nomadic life amongst the tree-tops throughout the Domain. Either through camouflage or by "Shifting" into the "Other Side," Spectres can remain hidden and unseen, leaving other Mobians to have little-to-no interaction with them—giving rise to the myth that the entire Domain is haunted, and that the Mobians within are nothing but ghosts.
Design—A Möbius Strip: An aquamarine planetary ring created from the remains of the Chaos of Time.
The loop removed the planet from the spacetime-continuum, creating a non-orbiting planet that is forever stuck at the same spot around the star and the same spot on its own axis. This has effectively frozen the seasons and the passage of time around the planet, meaning that instead of there being a change in seasons there are just stable climates; e.g. constant snow farthest from the star, a desert closest to the star, a land of perpetual rain, a land of perpetual spring, one of autumn, one of summer, etc. However, the loop itself moves, warping and bending, and this causes what the Mobians mistake for as the cycles of night and day.
Design—21st Century Earth Tech: Using the Chaos of Power Humanity's technology is far more advanced than anything we currently possess. However, unlike Mobian technology which is more 'organic,' Human tech is modeled after ‘classic' machines and constructs.
At first, the robots that begin appearing around Mobius are entirely running on AI and hardware. Eventually Robotnik’s study of Mobian life leads to his discovery that it isn’t just the planet that is made from Chaos energy, but also the inhabitants, and so he begins to capture them to power and run his machines.
Unlike Mobius, where the Chaos energy scattered and became part of the planet and its life forms, The Forge is in its 'original state,' kept in a Dyson sphere aboard Robotnik's orbital research vessel.
