Until Dr. Ivo Robotnik took over South Island to hunt for the 5/7 Chaos Emeralds hidden on South Island, and Sonic and Tails need to race though 7 zones find the Chaos Emeralds first before Robotnik and to stop him

Dr. Robotnik's at it Again! Only this time, he transformed the animals of Westside Island into Metal Robots and kidnapped Mighty's best friend Ray the Flying Squirrel! Mighty, Boomy and Amy must stop Robotnik from taking control of Westside Island to rule over the animals and to save Ray

On the mysterious Floating Island, Knuckles the Echidna is the keeper of the seven magical Rings of Order, as well as the ancient Warp Rings. Dr. Robotnik discovered the island, he decided to continue the investigation of the Rings of Order to uncover the secrets of the rings, as well as to theoretically summon the power within them. Robotnik quickly converted the island into a resort he dubbed Newtrogic High Zone, serving as his high-tech research fortress. He crystallized energy into artificial Dark Rings for his machines, and began to develop Ring Power, which would create a space-time connection between Rings and hired Fang the Sniper to find.
Knuckles fears that Dr. Robotnik is after his precious rings. And as a last minute resort releases the Rings across the island and sends a Warp Ring to his island to the Freedom Fighters to get to the island and the Rings before Robotnik can. Unfortunately, Tails, Mighty, Ray, Amy Rose and Boomy the Turtle all arrived at the island (for ether the save the island, study the mysterious island, or to show to his team he's a good teammate), and ended up being captured and placed in the Capsule machine by Robotnik and Metal Sonic. It's up to Sonic & Knuckles must join forces to find the Rings before Robotnik, save Sonic's friends and the Floating Island. Just another day in the life of a Freedom Fighter.

After years of battles, the unthinkable had happened. Sonic the Hedgehog; Hero of Mobius, had fallen.Thanks to Eggman's discovery of a brand new way to exploit Chaos Emerald energy, the doctor has been able to successfully defeat his long time nemesis.
However, this was only the beginning. Along with this new power, Eggman started to grow a force bigger then anything ever seen. Sonic's friends attempted to fight back, but were no match for the doctor's increasingly massive army. Even some of the world's leaders, such as G.U.N., have been unable to get much progress in fighting back.
6 months later, when most people had assumed him truly gone, Sonic returns and witnesses firsthand what the world has become.
Most of his friends have been scattered or captured, and to make matters worse, the doctor has used the Chaos Emeralds to help develop and power possibly his greatest weapon yet. Roboticization; a process that can convert organic material into robotic equivalents, effectively creating free armies from innocent Mobians.
With all the cards on the table, it's up to Sonic to pick up the pieces and figure out what happened, reunite his friends, regain the emeralds, and end Robotnik's rule before it's too late.
Will Sonic and co be able to end the doctor's machinations once and for all, and if so...
