Following in her mother's footsteps of being a special education teacher of 42 years, Miss Varney pursued her dreams since the age of 2 and went to the University of Hartford to become one herself. There she obtained a dual degree in Special Education and Elementary Education and certifications to teach Kindergarten through the age of 21. After college, Miss Varney secured a tenure track position at MMS and has called MMS and SOMSD her home for the past 11 years. Knowing that being a life long learner is important, in 2011, she hit the books again for a Masters degree in Educational Leadership and Administration at The College of Saint Elizabeth. She graduated with her M.ED, in 2013. With a new found passion in her career of education, she decided to pursue a parallel dream in becoming an administrator. Miss Varney has been serving as a team leader for grade 6 for the past few years now and hopes that this new role as ESY program coordinator will provide for even more opportunities to fulfill her new passion to lead others with servant leadership as her foundation. Miss Varney lives in a cozy garden apartment with her boyfriend, Dominick, and their bengal cat, Scout. She enjoys reading, working out, outdoor activities, camping and spending time with family and friends for fun!
