The following are the group activities of the team LAYAG LINDANG during their second exposure to Barangay Lindang from June 29 to July 27, 2024.
On the 1st of July 2024, the third day of the second community exposure, the medical students started their In-Depth Assessment on the concerning health problems of Barangay Lindang.
House to house interviews and surveys were done in order to ascertain the validity and relevance of the secondary data acquired from the RHU and the Barangay Health Center. All households located within the 7 puroks of the barangay were visited. Headed by the corresponding barangay health workers available on the specified day and purok head assigned, the whole of the population were able to reflect and discuss health concerns with the team and further information on the health status of the barangay was acquired.
On the 15th of July 2024, the medical students along with the Barangay Health Council participated in the 2nd part of the bi-annual deworming program for Barangay Lindang. While the previous exposure saw the barangay force visiting houses in the barangay with children aged 1-4 years old, the second program was done in the vicinity of the barangay health station
Children who previously sought treatment in the 1st part of the program followed up with their parents at the barangay as health registries confirmed completeness of their treatment for the year.
Key Informant Interviews
On the 17th of July, the medical students reached out and sought availabilities of key people in the community such as the Barangay Nutrition Scholar, Principal of the Local National High School as well as the Religious and Barangay Leaders to obtain more knowledge on focused health concerns.
Interview questions and key leaders spoken to were chosen based on their affiliations, influence and scope of responsibility in conjunction with the relevant health problems being pointed to by primary and secondary data acquired by the medical students.
On the 22nd of July 2024, the medical students conducted focus group discussions to better understand the influences brought on by cultural, environmental and social factors regarding problems in the barangay.
Questions were reviewed to be culturally sensitive and acceptable before implementation of said discussions.
Nutrition Month
On the 24th of July, the medical students participated in the Annual Nutrition Month Celebration held at the barangay covered court.
The program was headed by the Barangay Captain, Barangay Nutrition Scholar as well as the whole of the Barangay Health Council. Residents gathered and had fun in the festivities as the program featured informative speeches, fun games and exciting prizes that had everyone joining in on the festivities.
The program ended with a final message from the medical students as well as the barangay captain. Afterwards the barangay initiated an effective feeding program for all the children who were of growing age present in the program.
