HTF Candles & Mini Charts

See the bigger picture without leaving your chart.

Every trader knows that context matters. A move that looks significant on a 15-minute chart may be nothing more than noise on the daily. A level that appears to be breaking down on an hourly chart may be sitting exactly at a major weekly support. The challenge is always the same - how do you keep the higher timeframe in view while staying focused on the timeframe you're trading?

HTF Candles & Mini Charts solves this directly. It brings higher-timeframe price action onto your current chart in two ways: as overlaid candles that show exactly where the higher timeframe opened, closed, and ranged on each bar - and as self-contained mini charts projected to the right of your price action, complete with technical overlays, momentum oscillators, and reference levels.

Higher-Timeframe Candles on the Main Chart

Two independent higher-timeframe charts can be overlaid simultaneously on the main price chart, each with its own independently selected timeframe. Candles render in real time as the higher-timeframe bar develops - the open, high, low, and close update continuously until the bar closes, at which point the completed candle locks in place.

Three rendering modes are available. Standard candles display open and close as a body with a wick overlay. High-Low mode shows only the range without the body - useful for keeping the chart clean while preserving range context. Heikin Ashi mode renders synthetic candles derived from the higher-timeframe data, smoothing out noise and making trend direction immediately visible.

Volume-weighted candle coloring can be applied independently to each HTF overlay, using Fibonacci-derived thresholds to distinguish high-conviction bars from low-participation ones - the same coloring framework used across the rest of the dgtrd toolkit. Colour, transparency, and timeframe are independently configurable for each of the two HTF overlays.

Mini HTF Charts

Each higher-timeframe configuration has its own optional mini chart - a self-contained chart panel displayed to the right of the main price chart, showing the most recent higher-timeframe bars in detail. Up to 73 bars can be displayed per mini chart, with configurable horizontal offset.

Each mini chart supports three technical overlays: Bollinger Bands, a configurable Moving Average, or Supertrend. For Supertrend, direction changes are marked with a dot label at each flip point, and the line is visually separated at transition moments to make trend changes immediately clear.

Each mini chart also supports an optional momentum oscillator displayed beneath the candles - either RSI with a configurable signal line, or Stochastic with configurable %K and %D smoothing. The oscillator includes overbought, midline, and oversold reference levels, and a status label showing the current momentum state (Overbought, Bullish, Neutral, Bearish, or Oversold) updates in real time.

Volume-weighted candle coloring can be enabled independently on the mini chart, operating on the higher-timeframe volume data rather than the current chart's volume.

Reference Levels

Each mini chart can display statistical reference levels derived from the visible bar range. Range Extremes mode shows the highest high and lowest low across the displayed bars. Range Quartiles adds 25%, 50%, and 75% levels, providing a quick structural map of where price sits within the recent higher-timeframe range. All reference levels extend from the main chart into the mini chart panel for visual continuity.

Main Chart Technical Overlays

Independent of the HTF charts, the main price chart supports its own technical overlays. Bollinger Bands, a Moving Average Ribbon (20, 50, 100, 200), and Supertrend can each be applied directly. A momentum oscillator - RSI or Stochastic - can be projected beneath the main chart using the same on-chart rendering approach as the mini charts, keeping the oscillator visible without requiring a separate pane.

Volume-weighted candle coloring is also available for the main chart bars, using the same Fibonacci threshold framework.

Statistical Panel

A configurable statistics table displays three categories of information simultaneously.

Performance Metrics shows rate-of-return figures for the current day, week, month, quarterly periods (Q1–Q4), and the current year alongside the two prior years - colour-coded green for positive and red for negative, making period-over-period performance instantly readable.

Price Distance to Moving Average shows the percentage distance between current price and the 20, 50, 100, and 200 moving averages across three columns: the current chart timeframe, the first HTF, and the second HTF. This multi-timeframe MA distance view reveals whether price is extended or compressed relative to its averages at multiple scales simultaneously.

Volume Statistics shows current volume versus the volume moving average across the same three timeframes - current chart, first HTF, second HTF. When current volume exceeds the average, the cell highlights in green; when below, it remains neutral.

All moving average types (SMA, EMA, HMA, RMA, WMA, VWMA), Bollinger Bands parameters, Supertrend factor and ATR length, RSI and Stochastic settings, oscillator placement and height, volume MA length, and volume-weighted coloring thresholds are fully configurable and shared across the main chart, both mini charts, and the statistical panel.
