During the Summer Bridge Program, we attended a series of seminars where staff members from FSU generously shared invaluable advice, personal experiences, and strategic guidance for our transition into college life.
These seminars were extremely helpful to me, and I learned valuable lessons that I currently apply on my every day in college life.
The types of seminar topics that were available to us were internships, time management, professionalism, stress management, school-life balance, and research experiences.
During the internship seminars, we were teaching how to search and reach for opportunities related to our career or professional goals. One key takeaway was the importance of proactively seeking career opportunities; I learned to start looking for internships and job openings the semester before, in order to increase my chances of securing them.
The professionalism seminars taught me essential workplace etiquette, such as maintaining appropriate dress attire and demonstrating respect and courtesy in all professional interactions.
However, the most impactful seminar for me was on time management. Previously, I struggled with meeting deadlines, but the strategies shared such as the "2-minute rule" and the Pomodoro Technique have transformed my approach to tasks. Implementing these methods has made my first semester of college more organized and manageable.
