i chose a section from the website that gives 11 facts about Kowloon Walled city, specifically fact three where they talked about how these 14 floor high rise buildings were built. I chose this specifically because of how interesting and cool it is to understand the way it was built and the fact that it stayed up for decades. Basically when the city was growing they didn't have enough space, to adapt so citizens decided to build upwards without a plan, they built these apartments room by room going with the flow basically just building and hoping for the best. Most architects obviously expect these buildings to not last, maybe because of how unsafe it was or the maybe the building could just topple over; but it didn't and thats what i find interesting- how did the city survive? how did the residents live their life? it just amazes me how this concept was what kept the city alive for the longest time, and the fact that the reason the city was gone was not because the buildings were falling apart but because the government decided to demolish it.
