January 30: Last day to drop class and qualify for a tuition refund
February 21: Last day to drop class without notation on record
April 19: Last day to Withdraw with a W grade
Final Exam Schedule: We do not have a final exam in this course. Watch Canvas for schedule information during Finals week.
If you intend to drop or withdraw from the class, please do so through the campus website, otherwise you may risk receiving an F grade in the class.
In a face-to-face class, students can attend class, but still not participate. In an online class, however, attendance is determined by your participation. To be successful in this class, you will need to:
log in every Monday morning to assess the work and assignments in the new module,
throughout each week, log in on a regular basis,
participate in the interactive assignments, and
submit your assignments on time.
This is not a self-paced course. Each module contains assignments with specific due dates, which you will need to identify and meet. Your regular and timely interaction are important to your and your peers' learning. If you feel you cannot participate regularly, you may want to assess whether or not online learning is the right vehicle for you at this time. Consider your other course load, balanced with work and family obligations.
It is advisable that you log into this class regularly. Infrequent visits to Canvas will lead to falling behind and/or missing important announcements, assignments and/or posts to the discussion boards.
You can log into our class any time you like. Be mindful that here are very specific DUE DATES for assignments that need to be adhered to.
I recommend that you set a regular schedule for yourself to “attend” this class as you would any other. This is likely to help you to stay current in your work and assignments in this class.
Lecture materials, readings, assignments and all other pertinent chapter details can be found on Canvas under the left side bar button “Modules.”
By Monday of each week, I will post the readings, lecture materials, & assignments for the week. All the necessary materials will be located under the “module” button on the left side bar. Make Note....our 'week' runs from Monday to Sunday. I do this to accommodate the start-of-the-semester adds/drops and to give us all time to settle in at the start of the semester and finish up at the end.
Remember...not all online courses are the same. If you have, or are, taking other online classes they may have different weekly schedules.
Every assignment in the course will have a due date. You are expected to submit assignments on or before the assigned due date, which, in turn, allows me time to review your work and provide meaningful feedback. Due dates will be designated in the course to ensure time is provided to allow you to produce your best work.
I understand that sometimes personal events hinder your week making it difficult to complete work. I appreciate that there may be a week that you need to focus on something other than this class. That is ok, and a choice we all may need to make at one time or another. I have built in a couple optional assignments to accommodate for this. One of the Spotlight on Activism assignments is optional...if you need to take a week off from this assignment, know that the 5th option is optional. Additionally, I offer one extra credit opportunity…an extra credit blog at the end of the semester- to replace a missed assignment and/or to serve as extra credit. Think of this as a safety net. If you need to miss an assignment due to a personal issue (or you just forget a deadline) know that this option is waiting for you…at the end of the semester.
If you have longer term concerns about your participation in class, please contact me. I want to encourage you to advocate for yourself--come up with a plan and propose a solution to me, and we will discuss and make an agreement on how to proceed.
I recognize that sometimes late assignments are linked to things like test anxiety, procrastination, time management--or other common challenges. If this sounds familiar, consider checking out our campus Student Success Center.
An updated total of your grades will be available in the grade book in Canvas. Check this regularly to monitor your progress and to ensure that your grades have been entered correctly.
A grading rubric will be attached to each assignment. This is helpful to guide your work and to understand your grade. I will also comment on your assignment. You can view my comments and your rubric in your gradebook.
Please bring any questions and/or discrepancies in your grade to me by the final week of the semester. After our last class date of the semester, all grades are final.
