My name is Megan and I will be your instructor for SOC 344 - Sociology of Women's Health. I'm so glad you decided to enroll in this class and I'm looking forward to our journey together. I’m very excited to teach this class! This class is a culmination of my experiences working in women-controlled community health care, feminist-centered research, and advocacy-based learning. Through this class, I hope to provide you a community to share your experiences and to learn from others, to celebrate and empower ourselves, and to gain a knowledge that stays with you throughout your life.
With an emphasis on, though not limited to, female-identified bodies this class will focus on the body politic. We will explore the socio-political-cultural impacts on access, body image, self identity, and overall health. We will look at the connection between that which is personal and that which is political. I hope this class serves as a catalyst to learn more about yourself and our communities. Here’s to a great semester!!
Sincerely, Megan

As a part-time, online instructor, I don't have an office on campus. I do have online student hours -->
Student Hours
I will host a weekly, open (and optional) Zoom session. Day/time and Zoom link information are on Canvas
You can also make an appointment with me to meet one-on-one. Send me a message in the Inbox on Canvas with a couple days/times that work for you and I will respond with Zoom details.
Student hours are for you! They are not punishment. And they are open to online students!! Use student hours to check in, ask questions, get resources.
For fun, you can keep up with me on Instagram...I'll share campus events, social observations, and non-course updates

Communication with Me
I will be logging onto our class daily. I will be sending out mass emails to all students and sometimes individual emails to individual students to communicate with you. I will also post announcements regularly on Canvas. I highly recommend that you check your Sierra College email and Canvas regularly.
I check my email daily during the week and at least once during the weekend, so you can expect a response to your email within 48 hours during the week and within 72 hours on the weekend. Although, it will rarely take that long for me to respond.
I am very good about responding to messages. If you don't hear back from me within this time frame, touch base. I may have not received your message.
NOTE: The syllabus may change during the semester. Please make sure you are checking Canvas regularly so you are aware of any changes or updates.
