Fossil records for the feline family can be traced back to about 37 million years ago. Cats from the pantherine lineage emanated about 16 million years ago in Central Asia and spread to other countries. Snow Leopards are closely related to tigers. The snow leopard evolved from Miacids; this animal became extinct almost 30 million years ago.
