This chapter was more focused for younger kids, but there are still things we could learn from it.
My sister is only two years younger than me, but we still have a ton of things from our childhood. We aren't bringing crafts and art projects home either, but we do have a lot of note sheets. My mom is also a first grade teacher who brings home a lot of school work.
There wasn't a whole lot of things I wanted to try, but my main goal was to sort through the toys and things we had and figure out what we could donate. School wise I wanted to go through the supplies we already own so we can use what we have in the best way possible.
While we were cleaning the downstairs we had four piles; garbage, donate (to goodwill or mom's classroom), and keep. The amount of things we didn't need/want anymore was surprising. It also cleared up a lot of space that we can now use for other things if needed. I usually keep all of my notes throughout the year, but this year I decided to clean them out half way. I think I recycled half of the papers I got and I reorganized my supplies. I knew I had half empty notebooks but now they're either cleaned out or sectioned off and ready for another set of class notes in them.
We were able to maintain one garbage bag a week and continued to after which means that all of the things we tried to reduce our waste really did work. My mom even said that we should just start putting out the trash with the recycling every other week at this point because there is almost nothing in our barrel now. Overall I'm very proud of the work my family did these past nine weeks and I'm hoping we can maintain the success in the future.
