On 20th December 2024 (Friday), during the usual morning assembly, the Catholic Society of St. Michaelโs Institution (SMI) made history by organising its first-ever Christmas Carol Celebration โ a joyful and faith-filled event that united the school community in the true spirit of Christmas.
This historic milestone was made possible through the dedicated leadership of Master Collin Noel (Project Leader), alongside Master Taniel Raj and Master Samuel Darius. They were supported wholeheartedly by The Arks choir members and a talented team of musicians, whose skill and passion brought the carols to life. Special recognition goes to Sir Sharvin Dylan, Madam Mary Juliet, Madam Emilia Wong, and Sir Ravi Varma for guiding the music with excellence. Additional appreciation is extended to Sir Emelleo Elven Chan, Master Michael Neehraj, Master Jude Matthias, Master Ezekiel Thomas, Master Arronleno Edmund, Master Noel Sarvesh, Master Joel Luke, Master Aaron Joel and the rest of the Catholic Society members for their tireless efforts behind the scenes and during the event.
Heartfelt thanks go to Teacher Advisor Madam Veronica Komathi for her constant guidance, and to Mr. Wan Kamarulzaman, the Senior Assistant of Administration at the time, for his unwavering support in making this celebration possible. The Catholic Society also expresses deep gratitude to Mr. Lawrence, former Headmistress Madam Chan, and the teachers of SMI for their encouragement and assistance. We also thank SK St. Michael for graciously joining the celebration and allowing their students to experience the Christmas spirit with us.
The event began with a warm welcome, followed by a narrative of Christmas prepared and presented by Master Collin Noel, which set the tone for a meaningful and festive morning. Soon, the air was filled with joyful melodies as the choir sang beloved carols. Among the many highlights was a stunning duet of O Holy Night by Madam Mary Juliet and Sir Emelleo Elven Chan, which left the audience in awe.
Adding to the festive cheer, Santa Claus, played by Master Chow Han Yip and Master Joachims John, delighted teachers and students by handing out sweets and goody bags. The celebration reached another high point with an energetic performance by the Michaelian Military Band (MMB), whose lively renditions of All I Want for Christmas Is You and Last Christmas filled the assembly with excitement and applause.
As the morning drew to a close, the Catholic Society presented hampers to students in need โ a touching act of kindness that reflected the love, generosity, and hope that Christmas represents.
The Catholic Society extends sincere appreciation to every individual, group, and supporter who contributed to this eventโs success โ from the organisers, musicians, choir members, and MMB performers, to the teachers, staff, and students who joined in the celebration. Without their combined efforts, this first-ever SMI Christmas Carol Celebration would not have been the joyous and memorable occasion it was.
