The 2026 season had everything you could ask for—lead changes, hot streaks, complete meltdowns, and just enough bad golf to remind us who we really are.
The season started with a shocking declaration from two-time defending champion Schultz. Rather than chasing history, he announced that this year he planned to cruise around the back of the pack, drink a few extra beers, and enjoy life. Whether that was strategy or just an excuse for poor play is still up for debate.
Meanwhile, the Grape Ape had his eyes locked on the Cup.
For the first three weeks, it looked like his year. He was sitting near the top of the standings and playing with confidence. Unfortunately, the standings have a funny way of correcting themselves. Before long, the familiar names started climbing.
Joe found his way to the top.
And where Joe goes... Jason somehow always follows.
From that point forward, the season turned into what everyone expected—a heavyweight fight between Jason and Joe. Week after week they traded punches, swapping the lead and looking destined to give us yet another "J" champion.
So what happened to the dark horse? The mysterious knight who was supposed to ride in and save us from another Jason-or-Joe championship?
Guy happened.
Well... more accurately, a combination of questionable decisions, questionable swings, and golf that belonged on the "Remember When" Tour. The Cinderella story ended before anyone found the glass slipper.
Heading into the final tournament, Jason looked to have everything under control. Under the old scoring system, the Cup probably would've already been engraved.
But 2026 introduced a new wrinkle.
Only each player's best twelve events counted toward the standings.
That little rule came back to bite Jason. Once his disaster at Stone Creek finally dropped off his scorecard, his comfortable lead suddenly shrank to just six points over Joe, with the original Cup holder, SPP, quietly lurking behind them.
Then...
The unthinkable happened.
Jason and Joe both melted down like an ice cube on a hot muffler.
Birdies disappeared. Putts refused to fall. Pressure mounted. The door swung wide open.
And through that door walked Shon.
While everyone else was trying to survive the moment, Shon simply played his game. No fireworks. No miracle shots. Just steady golf when it mattered most.
When the dust settled, the Cup had a familiar owner once again.
For the second time.
As for the championship rings?
Well...that's what happens when you win the whole damn thing twice.
Some seasons are remembered for domination.
Season 2026 will be remembered for one of the biggest collapses in SMGL history—and the guy who was patient enough to be standing there when everyone else fell apart.
