Season 7 will forever be remembered—not because of inconsistent participation from the membership, and certainly not because of the Commissioner's lack of play following an offseason incident that, due to ongoing remediation, shall remain unnamed.

No, Season 7 will be remembered as the greatest underdog story in SMGL history.

For most of the season, it looked like defending champion Schultz had everything wrapped up. Heading into the finale at the proving grounds of LaFortune, he appeared to have a clear path to another championship. It was his title to lose.

But his story wasn't finished on the first tee.

Neither was the story of a young hero with a heart of gold... and a belly full of bourbon.

As the final groups made their way around the course, the rest of the league gathered near the 18th tee, watching the live scoring app. Suddenly, there it was—a glimmer of hope that we might crown a new champion. But for Guy to earn his place in the halls of SMGL greatness, he would need some help.

And help arrived.

What followed was perhaps the greatest collapse in SMGL history.

Schultz, who had been the model of consistency all season, hit a short drive. He laid up to avoid trouble, only to find the water. Then, in a sequence that will live in league lore, he hit not one... but two balls into the water. A series of misadventures around the green followed before he finally found the bottom of the cup. In the span of one unforgettable hole, he tumbled from the top of the standings all the way to 11th place.

Meanwhile, our unlikely hero calmly made his way to the green and rolled in a par for a net eagle, securing a third-place finish in the tournament—and, more importantly, first place for the season.
