The inhabitants of Antwerp proudly call their city a metropolis with the atmosphere of a village: here you will find everything, but always within walking or at least cycling distance. The old city centre breathes history. You can find it in centuries-old façades in narrow streets or on the imposing Grote Markt. The Museum Plantin-Moretus was nominated as Unesco World Heritage because of the exceptionally well-preserved printing house from the 16th century. In the shadow of the Cathedral of Our Lady, life is bustling in cosy brown pubs and restaurants. You can get a breath of fresh air on the banks of the Scheldt.
The Red Star Line Museum invites you on an eventful journey in the footsteps of the emigrants. Meet the passengers and accompany them on their journey from their home villages to the port of Antwerp. The Red Star Line ocean steamers with a new world destination await you at the quay. Fascinating and personal stories accompany you during the crossing. With their entire lives packed into a few suitcases, millions of people have taken the ferry from Europe to America since 1800. The United States and Canada are the promised land for fortune hunters and anyone looking for a better life. For many people, the journey to the new world starts in a harbour hangar in Antwerp. Between 1873 and 1934, the ocean steamers of the Red Star Line paved the way for a new life for approximately two million men, women and children.
The MAS is more than a museum. It is a modern interpretation of a warehouse in the middle of the bustling district 'het Eilandje' (the little island). A pedestrian boulevard with metres of glass leads you 60 metres up. On each floor, a new story about Antwerp, the river, the port and the world awaits you. The collection of 500,000 museum pieces gives you a refreshing view of the city and its centuries-old contacts with the world in permanent and changing exhibitions. And at the very top, on the 10th floor, you can enjoy a 360-degree panorama over the city, the port and the river.
The Saint-Felix warehouse is one of the most evocative 19th century warehouses and is inextricably linked to the history of the port and the city of Antwerp.
Discovery Tour of Antwerp: during this walk through the city of Antwerp, you discover various products and places that contribute to the history of this cosy city.
Each group of up to 15 people is accompanied by a professional English-, Dutch-, French- or German-speaking guide, who will immerse you in the city's history in a light-hearted way. On the way, you stop for a chocolate tasting and a beer tasting. Of course, a non-alcoholic alternative is also provided.
From 7.30 hours onwards Breakfast buffet
After breakfast : Go exploring in the Province ! We have composed a circuit of approximately 90 km, where the following can be visited at your own rhythm:
the City of Lier

Circuit with extensive road book
You are free to leave and to spend your time as you like, but lunch must be taken at Brasserie Colonie 7 in Merksplas, between 12.30 and 14.30 hours.
Our circuit starts with an absolute must: the historical city of Lier, situated on the river Nete. The centre is car-free but parking is possible within walking distance. Known for the Beguinage that consists of 11 streets with 162 houses (mostly from the 17th - 18th century), UNESCO World Heritage. Also the Gevangenenpoort (Prisongate, part of the old city walls) and the Belfry (also a Unesco World Heritage Site). In the Zimmer Tower is the Jubilee Clock from 1930 with 13 different time displays, and next to it in a pavilion the Wonder Clock with 93 dials and 14 automatons. More information on www.visitlier.be.
From there we drive on to the complex the Colonies of Benevolence in Wortel and Merksplas. Founded in the 19th century as agricultural colonies for the unemployed and homeless poor "vagrants" and now included on the Unesco World Heritage List. More information on www.kolonie57.be . Learn everything about life in the Colonies of Benevolence in the on-site visitor centre. The area is also a paradise for hikers and cyclists.
To finish off, you can visit the Hugo Voeten Art Centre in Herentals. This entrepreneur (1940-2017) was a passionate art collector with an eclectic taste and collected about 2000 pieces over a period of more than 40 years. This collection includes idiosyncratic choices from modern art and masterpieces of contemporary art. It is located in the former Deckx grain factory from 1950, on the banks of the Kempen Canal. The building was purchased in 2006 and renovated in 2009 with respect for the original architectural elements. See also http://artcenter.hugovoeten.org

Cady Cars
To end the weekend on a fitting note, we head to Ypres for a visit to Cady Cars. This company was founded in 1985 and apart from the purchase and sale of classic cars, it can also take care of total restorations, mechanical and body repairs, and the regular maintenance of all classic cars.
Thierry Dehaeck's own collection includes about 50 classics that meet one or more criteria: iconic models, built in limited series, from famous owners, with a fully known history, with limited mileage. Thierry Dehaeck has a clear preference for Citroën DS and Citroën SM: no fewer than three DS cabriolets and seven SMs can be admired in the newly decorated hall. The top pieces are the totally restored SM Espace Heuliez and the recently bought "Rig", three pieces that belong together: the SM record car of the 1987 Bonneville Land Speed Trial (325 km/h), the converted SM pickup and the hydraulically suspended trailer.
