One year later! Unveiled at CES 2024, Segway's XAFARI returned to CES 2025 for a promotional tour ahead of its North American release. With finalized specs, it boasts all the latest Segway-Ninebot technology: "SEGWAY INTELLIGENT RIDE SYSTEM"
The XAFARI is currently available for pre-order on Segway's US website. No word yet on a release date for Europe or the rest of the world
XAFARI's features
The Segway Xafari, born out of exemplary technical design, stands out with a gravity-cast monobloc frame—reinforced and seamless. This frame, blending robustness with structural integrity, promises unwavering resistance to the extreme constraints of all-terrain environments.
The efficiency of the Xafari's full suspension system relies on an 80mm front suspension and a 70mm rear suspension, coupled with an imposing all-terrain wheelset measuring 26 x 3.0 inches.
This configuration ensures optimal shock absorption and exceptional grip, guaranteeing a stable and responsive performance on various surfaces.
Xafari's electric power is driven by a high-density 913-watt-hour energy battery, significantly extending the overall autonomy and surpassing the average of electric bikes in the United States.
The motor, boasting 750W of power and delivering a torque of 80 Nm, imparts the Xafari with powerful and consistent propulsion suitable for all-terrain demands.
The turbocharger function, capable of providing approximately 1 kWh in just 4 hours, offers a rapid recharge solution, allowing the Xafari to swiftly regain its maximum energy potential.
The adjustable height, ranging from 4'11" to 6'3", adds a practical dimension by adapting the Xafari's configuration to different user sizes.
SEGWAY INTELLIGENT RIDE SYSTEM
AirLock is a wireless proximity security system for vehicles. It automatically locks and unlocks the vehicle based on the user's proximity, and triggers an alarm if tampering is detected. The system can also be controlled manually via a mobile app or passcode.
The dual-component tracking system, using Apple Find My and Segway GPS, provides high-frequency location updates for continuous awareness of the bike's position.
Segway's IoT Platform utilizes GPS for remote monitoring, app-based control, and over-the-air (OTA) updates. The system provides maintenance reminders to ensure timely service. Cloud binding of the bike to the user and battery prevents unauthorized use and theft.
The combination of a high-capacity 936Wh battery and an Intelligent Battery Management System results in a groundbreaking 88-mile range. This innovative technology allows for longer rides and greater exploration
The Xafari Adaptive Pedal Assist technology leverages an advanced gradient algorithm, internal gyroscope, and torque sensor to automatically adjust power output based on slope angle, terrain, and rider effort. The dual-sensor system, which combines torque and gyroscope input, precisely regulates power assist across 12 levels for seamless adaptation to changing conditions. This ensures a smooth and responsive riding experience, allowing riders to tackle various terrains effortlessly.
With real-time adjustments, the system provides an extra surge of power exactly when it's needed most, such as on steep inclines. Additionally, acceleration is enhanced by 30%, making it easier to conquer even the toughest climbs with speed and efficiency.
The 2.4-inch Smart TFT Display offers high-resolution, multi-color visuals with automatic brightness adjustment. It provides navigation, ride metrics, music control, and call management.
A bar-mounted Scroll Wheel allows riders to control 12 speed and assistance levels, and navigate the display screens.
The Intelligent Lighting System includes automatic headlights (high/low beam), daytime running lights, and taillights.
Real-time Health and Fitness Data syncs with Apple and Android health apps, as well as the Segway Mobility app.

The Xafari is a heavy smart e-bike, weighing 92.5 lbs (42 kg). While there's no guarantee of phenomenal success, it enters the market at the right time—when smart e-bikes are offering ranges exceeding 100 km and advanced features, whether in pedal assistance or security.
To break into the e-bike market, Segway-Ninebot has significant advantages—technological, logistical, and strategic. Leveraging self-balancing technologies acquired from Segway, Ninebot has secured key patents across its range of scooters, e-mopeds, and gyropods. While it remains less well-known in the e-moped market, the company has gained valuable experience through years of developing e-mopeds for the Chinese market, which boasts the largest selection of models.
With its first smart e-bike, the "Xafari," Segway-Ninebot delivers an e-bike that encapsulates proven technologies.
However, challenges remain, as the brand has yet to win over all audiences. The international launch of the Xafari and Xyber could be limited to just these two models for the foreseeable future.
