fiido air c31

February 28, 2025

The Fiido AIR C31 strikes me as quite appealing. Were I not residing in a rural area, I believe I would consider acquiring one. Its technological specifications are impressive, its design is notably refined, and it presents a competitive offering within the European commuter e-bike market.

The Fiido AIR C31 is an enhanced version of the C21 model. In contrast to its predecessor, the C21, which featured a gravel and road-oriented design, the Fiido AIR C31 is exclusively intended for urban use.

The Fiido C21, it's a really sharp smart ebike. They've definitely nailed the gravel style in a lot of ways. Very well done.

Let's take a closer look at what the AIR C31's capable of. We'll examine its components, features, attributes, and detailed specifications.

The Fiido AIR C31 is a lightweight, urban e-bike designed for a refined riding experience within a specific context: flat, urban environments where portability is paramount. The remarkably low weight of 13.75kg - 28.66 lbs (including pedals) is essential for navigating city life, where carrying the bike is frequent. This is achieved through extensive use of carbon fiber – not only for the frame but also for the handlebars, stem, front fork, and seat post.

However, Fiido provides no specific information on the type or grade of carbon fiber used. While carbon fiber is generally strong and lightweight, its quality and durability vary greatly depending on the manufacturing process and the specific fiber and resin used.

AIR 's features:

The choice of a Mivice M070 250W rear hub motor (35Nm torque) and a Mivice torque sensor reflects this focus on urban riding.

While the 250W output is a common legal limit, and the torque sensor provides a smoother feel, the 35Nm torque is relatively low, limiting its hill-climbing ability.

It features hydraulic brakes (brand unknown) and a Gates carbon belt drive, a logical setup for urban commuting.

The Gates Carbon Drive CDN belt drive further emphasizes low-maintenance.

Hydraulic disc brakes provide consistent stopping power.

The AIR C31's 36V 208.8Wh non-removable battery contributes to the low weight. The claimed 60km range is realistic for flat urban commuting in lower assistance modes.

The P2 range extender is a 214W removable battery (slightly more than the AIR C31's integrated non-removable battery) that can serve as a power bank with a USB-C charging port and is equipped with a very practical built-in flashlight with multiple lighting modes.

Its installation will require disassembling the controller to connect the power port. Fiido had the good idea to make this external battery compatible with several models.

An additional battery doubles the range of AIR C31

The front and rear lights are seamlessly integrated into the frame.

The design reflects a trend towards seamless integration. The AIR C31 avoids bulky components, opting for a clean aesthetic. Wiring is internally routed, and the IP54 rating protects against dust and splashes

AIR's Onboard technologies

Fiido chose not to integrate a display screen on its AIR C31. However, they ingeniously integrated an intuitive module on the top tube, enabling the locking and unlocking of the bike via fingerprint, control of the different assistance modes, turn on/off the lights and battery level indication. For all remaining data, the FIIDO app takes over.

Start/Stop the vehicle (Fingerprint recognition)

Light purple light will stay on for 10 seconds to indicate that the power is on, and 2 seconds to indicate the power is off.

Turn on/off the lights (Any finger)

Double-tap with any finger, and the buzzer will beep once, with a light purple light staying on for 2 seconds to turn the lights on/off.

Adjustment (Touch with any finger)

O Mode: Light purple -Normal Mode: Yellow - Sport Mode: Purple

Battery Indicator (When the power is on)

Green light: greater than 60% - Blue light: remaining power between 60%-40% - Red light: remaining power between 40%-10%

The FIIDO app enhances the e-biking experience with convenient features such as keyless unlocking and a bike guard that prevents unauthorized use. Users can customize their ride by adjusting pedal assist levels, enabling walk-assist, and switching between miles and kilometers. The app also allows riders to track mileage, analyze detailed ride data, and connect with other Fiido users.

It's also clever to make the watch compatible with multiple models, similar to the external battery.

Even though I already have a smartwatch, Fiido provides their own, the MATE watch, which allows you to:

It's a neat idea to have a sort of remote display. It complements the use of the app, which is quite comprehensive. As I already own a smartwatch, I don't see a personal need for it. I would have preferred a Wear OS compatible app. However, for those who don't own a smartwatch, it's a very nice feature, as the MATE watch also provides the functions of a regular smartwatch

"Well, looks like my commute's auditioning for a slow-motion film festival. Gonna be fashionably late to the office, folks!"

"I'm now an official time freedom consultant. My first advice: don't be late"

"City life's overrated. I'm moving to the countryside, where the biggest traffic jam is a herd of cows."

Lightweight in all aspects...featuring integrated key technology

The Fiido AIR C31, with its exceptionally lightweight frame, responsive motor system, and focus on ride feel, is specifically designed for flat urban environments where ease of carrying is as important as the riding experience. The low torque, potential single-speed drivetrain, and modest battery capacity clearly position it as a city bike. Despite the lack of information regarding the specific carbon fiber used, Fiido deserves credit for its bold approach to e-bike design. They are one of the few brands, particularly in the entry-level and mid-range market, to embrace full carbon construction.

Yeah, the Fiido AIR C31 is definitely a smarty bike. It skips an eSIM or built-in GPS, but with a Bluetooth module connecting to the app or the MATE watch, and the fingerprint recognition right there on the top tube. Data and bike security are well taken care of. And if you throw in that external battery that doubles as a power bank and flashlight, Fiido's really put together a very up-to-date bike for the market.

The AIR C31 demonstrates a commitment to lightweight and technologically advanced smart e-bikes with a thoughtful integration of components and a clean aesthetic, making it a compelling option for urban commuters
