Discrimination Policy
Excerpted from the IAFF website:
"Anyone eligible for membership in the Association shall not be refused membership or, upon acceptance, be discriminated against because of race, color, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or by reason of disability. "
SLIAFF is a group of emergency services role-players within the game of Second Life. We do our best to mirror real life and support our membership in the
ongoing mission of recruitment and role-play incident mitigation.
As in real life, we expect a certain amount of "firehouse teasing/joking/ribbing" to take place amongst the members of our group. However, any acts of discrimination and/or prejudice towards our members will not be tolerated. Our goal is to create a safe and inclusive group where all of our role-play members feel welcome to participate.
Discord and Chat
SLIAFF moderates a group chat in Second Life as well as a Discord sever for the use of our members.
All members are expected to utilize these communications resources responsibly. Members found to violate SLIAFF guidelines will be subject to actions up to and including removal and ban from the group.
The following guidelines do not represent a comprehensive list and are subject to change.
1) The long standing rule of SLIAFF is "drama" will not be tolerated.
2) SLIAFF staff will monitor and moderate chat when they are online. If a member of SLIAFF staff directs members to discontinue chat, all members shall follow the direction of the staff. Appeals can be made to the executive officers. Members who do not follow the direction of staff will be subject to action regardless of circumstance.
3) There is zero tolerance for any act that violates the discrimination policy. This includes the use of derogatory language, prejudice, discrimination, bullying etc.
4) All members are responsible for upkeeping the values of SLIAFF. If a staff member is not present for violations or abusive of chat, a report should be filed with the staff immediately.
5) If abuse of chat occurs members are not to engage with the abusers. Ignore the chat, file a report, and the staff will respond to the incident as soon as possible.
6) Linden Labs Terms of Service
7) Acts the can be considered "griefing" will result in an immediate ban.
Investigation
Thorough investigations are conducted anytime someone is accused of inappropriate conduct.
All group chat in Second Life is recorded via a bot. Although a notecard may be provided by a member, the bot record is always checked.
This record is saved into a document where specific infractions are highlighted. Based on the evidence, action is then taken or the case is dismissed.
Members who falsely report abuse, will be subject to action themselves.
Actions of Discipline
SLIAFF is a private group within Second Life that is free to join. Membership to said group is not guaranteed nor owed to anyone and can be revoked at anytime for any reason.
The leaders (executive officers) have been selected by the group founders and entrusted with managing the group including taking action against members who chose to abuse the group, fellow members, and/or rules.
Most actions of discipline are warnings that come from a single incident or a series of incidents the staff has noticed.
Warning are recorded and should multiple warning be issued, further action may be taken.
Additional actions could be the loss of Notice rights for example if a member is found not to be following the guidelines for posting notices.
Banning is a last resort, however their is a zero tolerance policy for acts of aggression/discrimination. In such cases the member will be banned without notice on the spot.
A request for an meeting of appeal, repeal, or rejoin can be made to the president or vice-president at anytime.
