The US Senate is a body of the legislative brand of the US Government, the upper chamber in the legislative branch of the federal government. The Senate is usually made up of 100 members called senators; two senators from each state with two main parties: the Republican and the Democrat. The Senate perform duties such as writing and passing laws, approving many presidential appointments, and ratifying treaties with other countries.
Being an intermediate council, the USS will discuss the Healthcare System in America and the issue of Gun Control.
The healthcare system in the US is based on the free market, operating on a system resembling none of that of any highly developed country. Prices of medical services and medication are determined by market forces and private firms. This system, however, has largely been criticized for its inefficiency and exorbitant prices. The US spends the most on healthcare among any country, and yet the healthcare situation in the United States is dire. With the increasing price of healthcare, many are struggling to afford treatment.
Gun control has been an ongoing controversy in the US for more than a century, rooting back to the establishment of the second amendment and the right to bear arms. However in the recent years, the numerous mass shootings in public areas have firmly thrust this issue back into the world's spotlight. Statistics have shown that no other developed country in the world has anywhere near the same rate of gun violence as America. In 2018 alone, the US has witnessed a series of mass attacks in schools. Media reports that response to mass shooting have become hauntingly similar; a predictable cycle of prayers, calling for new gun law, debating over them and failing to implement a practical action. The call for action has long passed, it is time to act.
Healing is a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity.
