The Historical Crisis Committee differs from other councils in that delegates assume the portfolios of different individuals and representatives to solve multiple crises faced during a monumental turning point of history. Delegates must think on their feet to respond quickly to updates and changes in the committee, using directives to curb situations they are thrown into. Delegates should ultimately aim to resolve the overarching issue of the committee whilst teleported back to a time of physical and political chaos.
As an advanced council, delegates will be brought to the time of the Vietnam War.
The Vietnam War began in 1954. After the fall of the French-Indochina war in Vietnam in April 1954 followed by the Geneva Accords in July the same year, Vietnam was separated into North and South Vietnam with the 17th parallel as the dividing line. Although having won the battle against foreign colonies, Vietnam was still unable to establish peace and unity as there were fundamental clashes in political ideology between the leaders of North and South Vietnam; a fight between communism and democracy. Specific events of the Vietnam War resulted in major power shifts and the heightened military involvement of the USA.
With the large involvement of the USA, the time period from 1963 to 1968 under President Lyndon B. Johnson will be the main focus of this Historical Crisis Council, but may extend until later than this stated time period.
With constant press releases and impending crises, delegates are transported back in time to ultimately discuss the issue of sovereignty of North and South Vietnam as well as the use of chemical weapons in the brutal Vietnam war.
“The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.”
