Since 2015 the department has reconstructed its program by creating a transfer degree in ECE, by creating layered certificates that create a clear pathway to ECE permits.
In 2016 the department got CAP (Curriculum alignment project) alignment for 8 core courses in transfer degree. This alignment allows candidates to transfer ECE courses to and from other CAP aligned community colleges across California. It eliminates the need to retake courses if they move to other locations in California before completing their educational programs. In 2019 the department got expanded CAP alignment for infant toddler, special needs and administration courses.
